The presented book attempts to answer the question of what philosophy is (although it may sound surprising, this is one of the most elusive philosophical problems, as more or less every philosopher understands philosophy differently than others). At the same time, however, there is a much more fundamental exploration concerning who we are and what our place is in today's scientific and technological world. However, these are not two separate inquiries, as answering the question of what philosophy is ultimately means clarifying who I am (as one who philosophizes). For this reason, philosophy is more of a practical attitude than a theoretical discipline or science. As it turns out, philosophy is primarily an understanding of the human situation, with three basic types of human situations being distinguishable (these are actually three fundamental modalities of human existence): archaic, European, and today's scientific-technical type. While the archaic type of human situation is characterized by uncertainty and instability of human standing, the European type is based on the immaterial that was created by Plato and which, as something absolute, allowed for the overcoming of archaic uncertainty.
