Beschreibung
Current reflections on women often oscillate between two extremes: the comfortable reinforcement of traditional gender stereotypes (sometimes justified by pseudo-religious arguments) and the convulsive affirmation of women's personal independence at the expense of anything that may be naturally shared and may be a prerequisite for the development of their unique charisma. This collective monograph sharpens and deepens the mentioned dilemma by linking it to the theological-ethical inquiry into the specific core of Catholic women's spirituality in today's complex and conflict-ridden world. In this context, its authors (mostly doctoral students and educators from Czech theological faculties) pose questions about the deeper spiritual meaning of women's desire, freedom, love, motherhood, suffering, and sacrifice, exploring yet undefined vocations of single women, the possibilities of revitalizing the dynamics of cooperation between men and women, and critical points in the historical development of the relationship between women's contemplation and their public engagement in the church and society. The testimony of the rich plurality of approaches to Catholic women's spirituality also expands the space for a moderate perspective on the current ideologically charged debate about so-called gender.
