The book is one of the attempts to answer the questions What is life? and How did life originate? The author, using the boundary field of biosemiotics, sheds light on answers from both natural and humanities sciences and attempts to unify them. He describes the co-evolution of the planet and life and its gradual emancipation and evolution. He wants to show that the boundaries of contemporary biology may be too narrow for describing the living. But what happens when we jump over the boundary – and do we need to? And are we allowed?
