Beschreibung

If Jaromír Jágr ever embarks on autobiographical reminiscing, no one will be surprised that the thread connecting the sequence of his narrative will be hockey: where he lived, what he thought about, what he learned about himself, what people he met – everything (or almost everything) will likely be somehow related to the sport in which he excelled. So why be surprised that literary scholar and Polish studies expert Petr Poslední made the axis of his memoir book, more precisely, the reader's experiences: reading and the development of his ability to read not just letters and words – to uncover additional layers of stories, to think about what the author wrote and also how he wrote it. To intertwine the adventure of reading, thinking, and his own writing with the adventure of his life. The last "confidential pages" (with a minimum of completely personal confidences) form a composed piece capturing his youth and maturation in the Czech Republic before moving to Poland: three sections named after the places where he lived at the time, with subtitles characterizing the respective life stages, framed by a prologue and an epilogue. We need not wait for the "next installment"; we find it in the author's already published books dedicated to Polish literature and the encounters and clashes of the Polish and Czech literary worlds.
