Fifty years have passed since the Second Vatican Council, during which a lot has been written about the identity of the Church. The publication following the conference organized by the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague aims to show how the Church thinks about itself today. In light of the broader discussion about the Church, it is necessary to highlight not only those aspects of the Church's life that connect its existence with the everyday pragmatic course of society but also to reveal themes that truly lead to a deeper understanding of the Church's identity. The authors represented in this publication trace the fundamental lines of contemporary understanding of the Church as formulated by the teachings of the Second Vatican Council: the Church has a fundamentally extroverted nature (Canobbio), while remaining humble at its core (Repole), and through community, it opens itself to all ways of human existence (P. Brož). The primary goal justifying the existence of the Church is the salvation of people and the world (Tück). Since the early years of the Church's existence, this soteriological trait can be observed (J.
