Beschreibung
The monograph "Art as an Expression of Meaning. The Philosophy of Art by Jan Patočka" is the first comprehensive systematic attempt to summarize the motives of Patočka's philosophy of art. Among the themes of Patočka's thought that the author explores in the book are particularly artistic education, the concept of the relationship between literature and myth, the interrelation and distinction between architecture, sculpture, and painting, style in visual art, the connection and difference between the art of the past and the present, as well as aspects of the relationship between art and scientific knowledge. Patočka's philosophy is examined largely chronologically, from his early texts from the 1930s and 1940s to texts from the 1960s and 1970s, although the emphasis on the content connections between individual treatises takes precedence over the chronology of their creation.
