Beschreibung
The Second Vatican Council remains the most important event in the life of the Church in the 20th century and has fundamentally shaped the lives of Christians living in the Church, as well as those who encounter the Church and its activities, over the past half-century. Human history, from the perspective of faith, is a history of salvation, and historical events thus become moments of contact with God's mystery in Christ and his gospel in theological reflection. This joint book, which emerged from a fruitful meeting at a theological conference at the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague, offers a fourfold perspective on the significance of Vatican II as perceived by contemporary global and domestic theologians. First, the council is placed in a European context, followed by an introduction to its contemporary reception in the Czechoslovak environment. The third part shifts attention to the prompts of the Second Vatican Council for the Church today and offers perspectives for the continuation of the council's reform. The final section then addresses the relationship of the post-conciliar Church to the world.
