Beschreibung
Karel Sládek's book attempts to grasp Russian spirituality of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century in a very readable yet skillfully crafted manner. The text, which addresses challenging questions, is written very convincingly and with appropriate accuracy. The author focuses on the most well-known and influential authors and personalities of the chosen period. Among the spiritual fathers of Russian theologians of the 20th century, he selects Dostoevsky and Solovyov; from the first generation of the "Silver Age" theologians, he chooses Florensky and Bulgakov; from the second generation, there are the émigrés Evdokimov and Lossky, who undoubtedly draw from the domestic Russian tradition while also responding to the intellectual environment in which they live. Sládek focuses on the central idea of their legacy for each character, which does not prevent him from presenting them in their complexity, as long as the planned scope allows.
