Beschreibung

The Russian thinker Nikolai Lossky (1870-1965) indelibly inscribed himself into the spiritual and intellectual life of the First Republic of Czechoslovakia, and during the wartime division of the republic, he also worked fruitfully in Slovakia. Even before Lossky's arrival in Czechoslovakia, his worldview was introduced by František Krejčí. However, a deeper understanding was brought by Lossky's own studies in the journal Ruch filosofický, where Lossky also gained a circle of intellectually and spiritually kindred souls. His friends included Karel Vorovka and Ferdinand Pelikán, who professionally engaged with Russian thought. Lossky developed a particular sympathy for Vladimir Hoppe and the Bezděk brothers, Ctibor and Miloš. In this monograph, Lossky's influence is presented not only based on biographical and bibliographical data but is primarily interpreted through the methodology used in spiritual theology. The key themes for theological reflection are Lossky's conception of mystical intuition and the spiritual development of personality.
