The Algorian imperial couple survived an assassination attempt, but its perpetrator is still at large. Empress Victoria is trying to find peace again, but far from her, another, much worse conspiracy is beginning to take shape, slowly drawing in the Viridian King Georg Talminis. Meanwhile, on Menabaranu, Avrian Dann is consolidating his power, with generous support from forces he knows almost nothing about, while Nikola and Natalie Vanberg are fleeing on Darren Iverson's ship from the planet. However, they are not only pursued by the police, and Newell could become a deadly trap instead of a safe home for them. Many games were set in motion in the introductory book of the Algor cycle.
