Dashiell "Dash" Bad Horse fled fifteen years ago from a life of humiliation, poverty, and despair that prevailed in the Prairie Rose Indian Reservation to find something better. And now he returns to find that not much has changed in the reservation – except for a shiny new casino and the fact that the once-proud nation is now decimated by drugs and organized crime. At the center of it all stands Chief Lincoln Red Crow, a former activist of the Red Power movement who has over time become a prosperous crime boss, and who has decided that a hundred years of white men robbing the Lakota is enough and that now is the time for payback. Armed only with a pair of nunchucks, a wild spirit, and (at least) one dark secret, Dash must figure out how to survive in a world full of gambling, shootouts, FBI agents, Dog Soldiers, massacres, meth labs, cheap sex, frybread, Indian pride, thunder beings, the harsh beauty of the wilderness... and maybe even a bit of scalping.
