Beschreibung
Otto Eder is sent to France as a radio operator before being transferred with his division to Yugoslavia. When orders arrive to move to the Eastern Front, many of his fellow soldiers die in difficult and sometimes extremely demanding battles. In Russia, they experience the worst of the war: food and ammunition shortages, heavy fighting, freezing temperatures and exhaustion lead to great losses. As the army’s supply routes grow longer, provisions and ammunition run out. Otto is seriously wounded and, after recovering, is deployed in Italy. In the final months before the end of the war, he and his fellow soldiers are taken prisoner by the Americans. Born in 1916, Otto Eder grows up in Bavaria. After suffering severe blows of fate, he leaves school because he loses his parents at a young age and lives with his brothers and stepmother. He completes an apprenticeship with Resse, the royal Bavarian court photographer, works for one of Germany’s finest portrait photographers and runs his own business in Stuttgart.
