Beschreibung
A loosely written chronicle of the author's great-grandfather Václav Voldřich, a noble sawyer from Zdíkov, and his numerous family members and descendants, covers the period from approximately 1830 to 1900. The main narrator is the author's grandmother, Voldřich's daughter Františka, as well as her son, conductor Karel Polata, who recorded all the stories. In addition to family tales, there are also other interesting and remarkable stories as they occurred over the years in Zdíkov and its surroundings. We will meet not only honest, decent, and God-fearing village neighbors but also thieves, robbers, and swindlers, sorcerers and magic, charmers and incantations, all sorts of superstitions and ghosts, seemingly dead people or even those buried alive, as well as incredible natural phenomena like the famous wandering root or a true Šumava mirage.
