Šumava – Život na hranici – Zemanová Erika (2022)

I wrote this book to show all lovers of Šumava, as well as my children and grandchildren, what Šumava looked like before and after the war and how it was transformed when the Lipno Dam was built. I would like to invite you to the places of my childhood and adolescence, where I witnessed the demise of entire displaced villages. In Dolní Vltavice, only partially inhabited, ordinary people lived, weddings were celebrated, and newborns were baptized in the church. Time has erased many memories, but I still recall how oppressive it felt to walk through the settlement from one end to the other, past empty beautiful houses, of which only every seventh was inhabited. Despite that, I experienced a happy childhood, adolescence, and first love here. Later, even as the flooding of the village was inevitably approaching, I still had my beloved places here, where I went for walks and on first dates. I cannot forget the solitary walk to Radslav, to Stina's chapel. I am glad that the water from Lipno does not reach this far, because every visit to these places reminds me of beautiful and unforgettable moments.
