Natural healing has been a part of human existence since time immemorial. When healing herbs failed, the magic of gods, goddesses, wizards, and witches came into play with spells and incantations, fumigations, bizarre potions, and incomprehensible mumblings of prayers, pleas, and enchantments. When even that did not help, and the cards clearly indicated that the sick would not be walking on the green lawn for long, the learned doctor would usually step in with his skills, often too late. Doctors were generally far from the sick and the most needy in the mountain solitude, and the mountaineers had no money to pay for a doctor's advice and medicines anyway. Most of the time, they helped themselves. They treated themselves as best they could and also based on what remained in their memory from their ancestors...
