Beschreibung

Karel Čapek once said that searching for new anecdotes is practically impossible. They are said to have existed in the world as long as humans, and thus only take on new forms in line with the development of humanity. It would be equally impossible to search for the authors of individual anecdotes, so we must settle for at least a genre and national definition. One of the most prominent groups consists of Jewish anecdotes. Who doesn't know at least one joke that starts with the words: "Kohn comes to Roubíček..." Surely we all agree that Jewish anecdotes have the greatest charm when told by Jews. Their unique humor, often somewhat hidden, supported by proverbial iron logic, is not just a straightforward prompt for laughter, but a reflection of the world in its bare form, without unnecessary embellishments, addendums, and ornaments. Human traits such as greed, stinginess, avarice, but also foolishness, shortsightedness, or naivety are elevated to the role of the main character and mercilessly expose exactly what a person tries to hide the most.
