Beschreibung
Frozen Universe is a crossover of space opera and military sci-fi. The Federation, multinational corporations, and individual adventurers penetrate the Solar System, but they need energy to survive. In the vicinity of Jupiter, they find a rich source of it: induction – living electromagnetic clouds. The hunt that ensues resembles whaling, with one key difference: Earthlings are not the clear favorites in the battle. The conflict escalates into a war where it is unclear whether humans or sperm whales are victorious. Martin Gilar (1966) has been a recipient of the Karel Čapek Award since the early 1990s. By profession a scientist, he leans towards adventurous hard sci-fi. His stories have been published in the magazines Ikarie, XB-1, in the anthologies Mlok, and others. The novella Frozen Universe won the main prize at CKČ in 2011, and with the biopunk story Touch of Molecules, he won the Daidalos literary competition in 2012. He has lived in Massachusetts since 1996. He published a humorous book about his overseas experiences titled Don't Be Afraid of America (2010).
