This Czech-language fantasy novel begins with an unexpected phone call that brings Mercy an intriguing challenge. Christy, the former wife of Mercy’s partner Adam, is fleeing her new boyfriend and asks for help. Adam cannot refuse, so Christy moves into his house, but Mercy quickly senses that something is wrong. Her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy wants Adam back and is prepared to turn his pack against her. Then a far greater threat emerges: Christy’s former partner is not merely a bad man, and may not be human at all. As the bodies pile up, Mercy must set her personal problems aside and face a creature capable of tearing her entire world apart.
