The Floating Island is a fantastic novel by the French writer Jules Verne from the series Extraordinary Voyages. It ranks among the author's lesser-known works. It tells the adventure of four French musicians who find themselves against their will on a fantastic floating island called Standard-Island. The island was built as a recreational spot for American and European millionaires to enjoy beautiful weather while sailing the Pacific Ocean all year round. The author describes the beauty and diversity of the Pacific islands where the island stops on its journey in his unique style. Of course, this invention also hides a number of technical marvels and innovations... Thanks to this book, Verne is said to have predicted the invention of the internet. However, this is not true. While Verne does describe a cable that connects the floating island to the eastern coast of the USA, it is merely a regular telegraph line.
