The book is a gripping autobiography of Somali gynecologist Hawa Abdi, who is engaged in the human rights movement and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. At the same time, it is an authentic portrayal of the sad fate and tragic state of contemporary Somali society. Dr. Hawa Abdi, along with her daughters, runs a hospital and a school in the largest camp for displaced Somali citizens in the country, which has existed for over twenty years and has provided refuge to an incredible 90,000 people.
