Beschreibung
The autobiography of a blind man, focusing on the period of his complete blindness and the inner feelings and dreams of a sightless person. John M. Hull, however, does not only write about his feelings, fears, frustrations, and hopes. He also recounts the specific obstacles he had to overcome as a completely blind person in everyday life and how his blindness affected his relationships with loved ones, friends, and colleagues. He was born on April 22, 1935, in Corryong in northeastern Victoria, Australia, and is now an emeritus professor of religious education at the University of Birmingham in England. He had vision problems from a young age and became a registered blind person in 1980. His highly successful diary about his experiences with blindness was published in 1990 under the title "Touching the Rock: An Experience of Blindness." This book is a reissue of that diary, supplemented with some passages that were missing from the original edition and numerous insights from later years. It is a compelling testimony of the feelings of a person trying to adapt to the unknown world of blindness.
