Peru is a term familiar to us, yet very distant. We know that this country exists somewhere in South America; those knowledgeable in geography will immediately associate it with the Andes mountain range. It is also probably no secret to most that this part of the country is linked to the Inca Empire and its extraordinary culture, which surely brings to mind at least the well-known and mysterious fortress of Machu Picchu. But what do we really know about this country? In reality, the history of Peru is incredibly rich and stretches deep into the past, as is the Peruvian culture, nature, and the contemporary life of its inhabitants, which is literally unimaginable to us. After all, in Peru, you can find almost every climate zone you can imagine. From coastal beaches to deserts and rainforests to ice-covered peaks of high mountains. Here, you will find descendants of the local population alongside people of all nationalities you can think of, including a Czech minority. Its traces here are certainly not negligible, as you will see. And we must not forget the very broad topic of pre-Columbian cultures and the conquest.
