Once, I spotted one of my past books on an abandoned bench in the park. No one was approaching it, and it was pouring rain. I stood under an umbrella, observing the ruin of my efforts to win the reader's favor. The letters were getting soaked, and the book was surrendering, as if it were my own fate. Then it occurred to me that there's a saying: 'Third time's the charm.' But sometimes also: 'Three strikes and you're out!' In any case, here is my third attempt to engage readers with another eleven stories. And if they should end up discarded in the rain again, at least cut out the illustrations by Vít Haderka in advance, because they tell the stories far better than all my letters.
