The personality of Dr. Edvard Beneš is generally regarded as at least controversial. However, this book clearly deviates from such a cliché by replacing this judgment with evidence of the fact that it was not Beneš himself who was controversial, but rather his political goals, many of which he did not achieve. It portrays this man as a statesman directly predisposed to a sadly consistent series of mistakes, which he made with usually fateful consequences primarily due to a few distinctly named significant personality traits. It tells the story of how these unfortunate traits typically manifested with such fatal effect in the years before and during the world wars of 1914-1918, within a whole series of Beneš's missteps during the First Republic and especially around the year 1938. It also covers his time in British exile, culminating in his similarly grim practice during the years 1945-1947 and especially in the Victorious February.
