Dying for a film? is certainly not an ordinary memoir about how we ever shot anything and how much fun it was. On the contrary – it primarily tells the stories of a long line of mostly significant Czech artists, whose fates have been fundamentally marked by film, television, or art in general. In the past, but especially in our times. As I clearly outline in the book's table of contents, I discuss in three main chapters various motives that led these prominent figures to serve their art literally to the point of exhaustion or to be fatally marked by it, while also recalling the greats who took their own lives, usually in causal connection with the most popular art. In doing so, the reader will find a convincing answer to the fundamental question posed in the introductory title, not only through the truthful depiction of these lives but also in the testimonies of many colleagues, my acquaintances from the field, and in the words of true living classics.
