Beschreibung
The Black Book of Czech Television by authors Petr Žantovský and Jiří Hroník reflects on their approximately five-year collaboration on the column Week in Media, which appears on the portal Parlamentní Listy.cz. Week after week, they jointly comment on media events of the past days and question whether the way the media portray reality is appropriate and real, or whether it is distorted and manipulative, and why that is the case. They pay special and constant attention to Czech Television, as it is a public media outlet funded by the citizens of the Czech Republic, who have little influence over what happens at ČT and how it happens. Therefore, every professional and ethical misstep made by ČT is felt doubly and deserves the strictest criticism. This book does not aspire to be academic literature; it is more a mosaic of observations capturing the mistakes and missteps of this media outlet and can also serve as a springboard for a factual assessment of what ČT is, what it could be – and whether we even need it.
