The authors of this publication have set several goals: ***** To present how the meaning and role of religion changes behind the bars of Czech prisons. To provide a comparison of approaches to the topic abroad and in our country. To analyze the perspectives of actors operating in the prison environment through their own research examples. Whether it concerns the convicts themselves, prison staff, or specifically prison chaplains. ***** This book thus combines two major themes from the social sciences: religion and imprisonment. It is the first publication that offers such a broadly conceived intersection of these social institutions in the Czech context. The significance of the publication also lies in the fact that even abroad, social science research on the role of religion in the prison environment does not belong to the mainstream.
