The new title by singer, poet, and writer Patti Smith, author of the famous book Just Kids, is a unique autobiographical record. The contemplative odyssey, which took shape around 2011-2013, the author herself called "the automap of her life." The proverbial train of memories, "M Train," sets off in a small café in Greenwich Village, where Patti Smith heads every morning for a cup of black coffee. In her prose narrative, dreams seamlessly blend with reality and the past with the present; Patti Smith takes readers to places she holds in the highest regard: to Casa Azul, the blue house of painter Frida Kahlo in Mexico, to Berlin for a meeting of an obscure community of polar explorers, to a dilapidated house on Rockaway Beach that the author acquires just before the devastating Hurricane Sandy strikes the East Coast; and to the graves of beloved authors, Jean Genet, Sylvia Plath, Arthur Rimbaud, or Yukio Mishima.
