The nine-part history series of textbooks, along with workbooks for elementary schools and multi-year gymnasiums, has already secured its place in schools. It captures historical development from prehistoric times to the end of the 1980s. The unconventional concept presents students with a vivid picture of past ages and evokes their interest in history rather than merely introducing them to the dull realm of dates, names, and events. The authors opted for a readable, brisk, and fictionalized form of text populated with historical figures, lightened by legends and myths. This is significantly contributed to by both the selection of content and its interpretation. One cannot overlook the many attractive and picturesque illustrations by J. Petráček and D. Ježková, maps, timelines, and the fresh graphic design. The instructional material is organized into practical and effective two-page spreads that form the content of individual lessons. It is also commendable that the textbooks, in addition to key events in political history, do not forget about the spiritual culture of society and complement it with everyday realities. There is also consideration for the so-called blank spots in history textbooks. The basic summary that students should remember is appropriately highlighted graphically on each two-page spread.
