Etické problémy v onkologii – Opatrná Marie (2022)

The medical world began to delve deeper into ethics in response to the events of World War II, driven by the need to come to terms with the failures of medicine. The upcoming publication is particularly interesting as no comprehensive monograph has yet been dedicated to the issue of ethics in oncology. This topic is not negligible, as the number of patients with cancer is rising in our country - the incidence of malignant tumors in the Czech Republic has been steadily increasing, while mortality rates have shown stagnation. The author, originally an oncologist, has been providing clinical pastoral care at the Oncology Clinic of the General University Hospital in Prague for twenty-five years and is also partially involved in teaching medical students. Thanks to her extensive experience and personal commitment to working with oncology patients, as well as her excellent understanding of the development of approaches to them, she has written a book that addresses some fundamental questions and issues in oncology related to medical ethics.
