Beschreibung
Vitreoretinal surgery currently represents one of the most significant areas of ophthalmology. Surgical treatment of the retina and vitreous has undergone considerable development in recent years. For many years, vitreous surgery was considered practically impossible, and attempts to access the vitreous surgically yielded poor results. The most significant milestone and a complete change in this field was the introduction of the pars plana vitrectomy surgical approach in the early 1970s. Over the past 50 years, pars plana vitrectomy has become the standard in the treatment of many ocular pathologies, such as retinal detachment, complications of diabetic retinopathy, vitreomacular interface diseases, intraocular inflammations, vitreous opacities, eye injuries, and many others. This book aims to familiarize novice ophthalmologists with the basic principles of surgical treatment of the retina and vitreous. The general part of the book describes the diagnostics necessary in the indication process and the general philosophy of the surgical approach to addressing retinal pathology. The special part describes the specifics of surgical solutions for selected pathologies.
