After five years, we present to readers the second updated edition of the monograph summarizing current knowledge in the field of pancreatology in a comprehensive and clear form. Diseases of the pancreas and their treatment continue to represent an area of uncertainty for many doctors, which is why it is essential to disseminate modern findings from basic research, advances in imaging methods, the development of treatment modalities, and last but not least, developments in prevention and screening. The structure of the monograph remains fundamentally the same, but the individual chapters reflect the progress in the field over the five years since the first edition. The introduction summarizes basic anatomical, histomorphological, and physiological data, including regulatory mechanisms of pancreatic functions. This is followed by a section of the book dedicated to acute pancreatitis, reflecting modern knowledge about etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment. The chapters on chronic pancreatitis describe the fundamentals of the disease's pathophysiology, its classification, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and present possible therapeutic approaches. The oncology section of the monograph summarizes the basics of diagnosis and surgical treatment of pancreatic tumors in a clear manner, as well as the possibilities of using endoscopic methods in pancreatic diseases.
