The book, which is being released in its second edition (the first edition in 2012), reflects the progress that has been made over the past 9 years in the issue of allergic diseases in childhood. The original author team, composed of leading experts from Czech and Moravian pediatric allergy and clinical immunology centers, has been diminished by the loss of the founder of pediatric allergy in our country, Prof. MUDr. Václav Špičák, CSc., who passed away at the age of 90 in 2019. The chapters originally prepared by him have been updated by Doc. MUDr. Vít Petrů, CSc., and Prim. MUDr. Irena Krčmová, Ph.D. The authors of this reissue present the reader with a comprehensive and recent view of the etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and prognosis of immunopathological conditions arising from allergic backgrounds. The monograph is divided into two parts – general and special. The general part provides clear information on the prevalence, genetics, immunopathology, etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, therapeutic options, prevention, and prognosis of allergic diseases in children. A separate chapter discusses the role of the nurse in caring for allergy sufferers.
