Rupture of the free wall of the left ventricle is a feared and catastrophic complication of acute myocardial infarction burdened with high mortality. Until recently, it approached 100%, and the chance of survival was minimal. However, the dynamic development of cardiac surgery and diagnostic methods in recent decades has begun to change the prognosis of this previously fatal diagnosis: rupture does not occur suddenly; its development takes time during which the patient can be saved. If a cardiologist considers the possibility of rupture in a patient and purposefully monitors clinical, echocardiographic, and other predictors indicating the possible onset and development of rupture, it gives the patient a chance for life-saving cardiac surgery. The book contains a large amount of unique photographic material demonstrating surgical techniques as well as intraoperative and echocardiographic findings.
