Abbreviations are a typical feature of modern medicine, applicable to medical documentation, professional literature, presentations at medical congresses, or clinical studies. Most doctors are familiar with the abbreviations used in their own workplace, but with the ongoing diversification of subspecialties, they do not know all the abbreviations within their specialization. Texts from other workplaces or fields thus require constant lookup of abbreviations, and searching for an abbreviation online can be difficult – the same abbreviation is often used in dozens of other contexts besides medicine. The dictionary of medical abbreviations is the result of many years of work, during which hundreds of documents, titles of medical journals, and presentations have been processed. The dictionary allows for the efficient lookup of the vast majority of common and less common abbreviations. Following the success of the first edition – which was completely sold out – it is now being released in a second expanded and supplemented edition.
