Peritonitis remains one of the most serious complications of surgical procedures, trauma, and also other pathological conditions even in the 21st century. Even in an era of highly developed surgical treatment and the existence of dozens of effective antibiotics, peritonitis can have a fatal outcome. It is a condition that surgeons at all levels encounter quite frequently. A collective of leading Czech surgeons and experts from various other professions, led by Prof. Robert Gürlich (Surgical Clinic FNKV), has taken on the task of creating a comprehensive, modern, and yet practically oriented publication addressing all aspects of peritonitis. The book is also supported by the European Committee of the Society for Early Infections (SIS-E).
