Oční přípravky - Ocularia, Ophthalmica – Šklubalová Zdeňka (2018)

A specific feature of eye diseases is the application of medications into the conjunctival sac, or onto the surface of the eye. The eye is a very well-protected and isolated organ, and the limited retention time of conventional preparations leads to relatively low bioavailability of the drug. It is perhaps not surprising that in this seemingly traditional area of pharmacy, very dynamic development is taking place, bringing new substances and application forms to the market. The book "Oční přípravky" by two renowned Czech authors provides basic practical information about the application site, factors influencing the transport of the drug into the ocular tissue and its effect, about the dosage forms used, and also about the factors affecting the dosing of eye drops, which historically belong to the oldest ocular drug forms. A large part of the text is dedicated to excipients used in eye preparations, aiming to explain why individual substances in the formulations are essential, what their physicochemical properties are, and what potential risks their use entails. Certain attention is also given to intraocular preparations in context. The book is intended for the professional public, especially ophthalmologists and pharmacists.
