The common themes of cardiology and nephrology have been known for many decades. However, with the development of both fields, their mutual overlap has expanded to such an extent that the term cardionephrology is increasingly being used today. A leading Czech expert in this ever more significant area is cardiologist Prof. MUDr. Jan Malík, Ph.D., whose work has gained international acclaim (see, for example, the book Widmer & Malík, Patient Safety in Dialysis Access, recently published by the German publisher Karger). The author team led by Prof. Malík has created a comprehensive and practically oriented publication that will undoubtedly be a fundamental contribution for both cardiologists and nephrologists. Although the thematic axis of the book is echocardiography, the publication is undoubtedly an excellent introduction to cardionephrology.
