Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in most countries of today's world. Among them, coronary circulation diseases – primarily coronary artery disease (CAD) – rank first. However, in the field of CAD therapy, there has been a significant breakthrough in the last 25 years that has completely changed the fate of a considerable percentage of patients – the possibility of rapid reopening of the infarcted coronary artery, advanced pharmacotherapy, and, last but not least, sophisticated diagnostic methods. A natural side effect is the growing discrepancy between therapeutic options and the actual knowledge of routine cardiologists and internists. With the aim of eliminating this discrepancy, a collective of our leading cardiologists has prepared a pioneering work that introduces readers to what they need to know for the diagnosis and effective treatment of CAD at the level of the second decade of the 21st century.
