Od Pacifiku k Atlantiku - na kajaku kanadskou divočinou – Klvaňa Ilya (2014)

Despite his youth, Ilya accomplished what no one had managed before: he paddled across all of Canada from west to east in one season. During the two hundred days on the journey, facing the elements, he met many interesting people and had the opportunity to glimpse into the lives of the Indigenous peoples. He paddled nearly nine thousand kilometers over seas, lakes, and rivers, and walked about three hundred kilometers, often with his kayak on his shoulders. He experienced the changing nature and landscape from late spring to the onset of winter – in sunny days, rain, and heat, in strong winds, frost, and snow. In his book, Ilya captivatingly describes his experiences, portraying not only the landscape and daily joys but also many adventures and difficulties that accompanied him throughout. The authors of the Czech translation, Ilya's parents, both Czechs, emigrated from Prague on August 26, 1968. They settled in Montreal, where Ilya was born in 1978. He spent most of his free time in nature during his childhood and youth. It was there that dreams of adventure in the wilderness likely took root. Although he was raised as a Canadian, he learned Czech from childhood and still speaks it excellently. He cannot hide his Czech heritage.
