The greatest evil of our time is that science and religion appear as two opposing forces, as two unyielding enemies. The evil of reason is all the worse because it comes from above, slowly but surely seeping into our minds - as if it were a subtle poison that we breathe in with the air. And thus, all intellectual evil over time becomes mental evil and, consequently, social evil. As long as Christianity naively proclaimed the Christian faith in semi-wild Europe, as it did in the Middle Ages, it was one of the greatest moral forces. It shaped the soul of the modern human being.
