Beschreibung
The first part of this extraordinary and invaluable book deals with the general development of the climate, focusing on the fundamental natural mechanisms of climate change. It explains basic terms, introduces methods of climate research including its history, and provides answers to important questions, among which we highlight: Why are oceanic oscillations important? – Is our time really experiencing more extreme climate? – Why is the Earth warming less than we would expect? ***** The second, main part of the book describes the course of weather and climatic episodes of past centuries, based on an extensive collection of forty-five thousand excerpts from chronicles and other historical documents for the years 1000–1775, organized by individual years. This part concludes with an overview of the natural periods of the Little Ice Age according to temperature and precipitation series from the meteorological observatory in Prague's Klementinum, as well as a brief characterization of the climate of the 20th century. ***** In the third, final part of the book, we find ourselves in the climate of the future world and seek specific answers to the question What awaits us and what can be done about it? Here we also find practical advice on how to cope at home, in the city, in the field, or in the forest.
