Control and measurement is a vast discipline that touches almost all areas of life. Besides engineering, which this publication primarily addresses, accurate and reliable measurements must be made in sports, medicine, construction, transportation, commerce, and many other fields. The basic conditions for correct measurement, however, apply equally to all fields. The first prerequisite is knowledge and respect for all laws and regulations issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the Czech Republic for the field of metrology. Metrology is a scientific discipline that deals with control and measurement. It is divided into: scientific, legal, practical. The textbook describes the basic principles of measurement and measuring instruments. The scope and details correspond to the requirements of secondary school studies, with a main emphasis on clarity and comprehensibility. A significant part of the textbook is devoted to testing technical materials, including metallography and fractography.
