Beschreibung
The third poetry collection by Olomouc literary theorist, fiction writer, and translator František Všetička (1932) uniquely revitalizes the form of the poetic nona, a stanza particularly characteristic of Italian Renaissance poetry, composed of nine lines in iambic pentameter. Some of Všetička's nonas are dedicated to his poetic colleagues Petr Bezruč, Jiří Mahen, František Halas, Josef Kainar, and others. Others relate to his native Olomouc, to Brno, to reflections on Krakow theater, to the so-called Súchov Republic, but the collection also includes nature-impressionistic or existentially themed poems. The author of the afterword, Jiří Poláček, characterizes the poet as a typical homo ludens, a playful and inventive creator who enjoys returning to semi-forgotten or now rarely used poetic forms.
