The Luxembourgs - originally imperial counts, later one of the successful ruling families of late medieval Europe and simultaneously one of the dynasties that occupied the Czech throne. Since their arrival in Bohemia, 700 years have passed as of December 2010. Although the era of the Luxembourgs in Bohemia spans just under 130 years (and they did not always have full control over their kingdom) and cannot be compared in terms of duration with, for example, the Přemyslids or Habsburgs, their epoch brought several significant works (with their arrival in Bohemia marking the onset of Gothic architecture), which today appear, for instance, in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Four rulers from this dynasty occupied the Czech throne - John, Charles IV, Wenceslas IV, and Sigismund. The contributions of individual Luxembourgs to the elevation of the Kingdom of Bohemia are, of course, varied; John and Sigismund spent more time abroad, while Charles and his son Wenceslas felt at home in Prague. However, even among them, there are significant differences - while Charles built an empire with a monumental metropolis, with temples, a university, stone bridges, and monasteries, the same cannot be said for his sons. Nevertheless, the Luxembourgs managed to realize several ideas of their Přemyslid predecessors...
