This Czech-language collection, published to mark Štěpán Špinka’s life anniversary, contains twenty-one contributions from his teachers, colleagues, students, friends and loved ones. Its first part presents scholarly texts examining care of the soul from ancient philosophy to the present day, while the second reveals the more personal dimension of Špinka’s work. The contributors address human nature, self-knowledge, beauty and the relationship to the divine, as well as practical questions of just coexistence and education. The variety of the contributions reflects the exceptional influence of the honouree, who uniquely combines profound philosophical thought with lively dialogue and an infectious enthusiasm for philosophy and life itself.
