René Descartes (1596–1650) is the founder of modern philosophy and one of the most influential philosophical and scientific authors. His work provides fundamental insights into the nature of the human spirit and its difference from the physical world, the mathematical structure of nature, and basic ideas concerning non-Euclidean geometry. Descartes is an elegant but also difficult philosopher to understand. This Czech-language introduction presents his most important findings and theories while also revealing the philosophical intentions that shape his work as a whole, from his early writings, never published during his lifetime, to his final works. It also discusses important topics such as the meaning of God for Descartes, his interest in the human soul, his “ethics,” and the essential features of his philosophy of nature.
