Beschreibung
This Czech-language book brings together texts written between 1978 and 2017 about the philosophy of Czech thinkers Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Jan Patočka and Václav Havel. Their thinking shares an approach to philosophy that is oriented towards action. Masaryk, Patočka and Havel understood politics as an activity founded on moral principles and sought a new spiritual dimension of life for modern people who find support neither in metaphysics nor in traditional forms of religion. Although their search sometimes appears to have reached a dead end, it can still inspire contemporary thought, particularly in addressing current political issues such as the role of the nation and the nation-state, the future organisation of Europe, and attitudes towards violence, war and revolution. Above all, their work encourages and justifies personal engagement even in situations that are not at all receptive to it.
