Father Dolindo was a sought-after preacher and an immensely prolific spiritual writer. Among other works, he wrote the well-known Novena of Surrender. Dolindo Ruotolo passed away in 1970, just two years after the stigmatized Father Pio. They met only once in person, but on a spiritual level, they were like twins: they shared a mystical gift, prophetic charisma, the ability to read human hearts, the gift of healing and exorcism, but above all, Christ's cross – the redemptive suffering for others, for the Church. For many years, both humbly endured persecution and unjust bans from church authorities, and both died with a reputation for holiness. They spiritually accompanied crowds of people, many of whom found Christ or a new, deeper conversion thanks to them.
