The book presents the results of the second representative research study on readers and reading in the Czech Republic. The first study took place in 2007, and its results, including interpretations, were presented in the book 'Do We Read? The Inhabitants of the Czech Republic and Their Relationship to Books' (2007). It is not merely a summary of statistical data about how much we read, what we read, how many books we buy, how often we visit libraries, where we most often obtain information about books, what has the greatest influence on our relationship with books, what magazines we read, etc. The data show how Czech readership is distributed, i.e., who its drivers are and who pulls it down, where barriers exist, and where Czech reading culture has its strengths. Furthermore, reading is viewed in the context of other activities — media, work, and leisure. A specific theme of the second study is the reading of fiction and reading in a digital environment. The book also includes framing chapters about when, where, and why fiction was born, as well as how reading changes or does not change under the pressure of new technologies. There is also a comparison with reading culture in other countries. There seems to be no broader and more significant cultural footprint than reading.
